Our Company History

Refreshing Blend of Fish Worker and Entrepreneur

Our founder and namesake of Castro Seafood, Cristiano Castro, continues to shape and drive the company with his tireless enthusiasm, his passion for people, and his love for fish. He founded Castro Seafood over 20 years ago with just 2 employees, a filleting table, and an old forklift. The demands and wishes of customers challenged the young entrepreneur and led to rapid growth, which required larger production capacities and areas after only a few years.

The company continued to grow, as did Cristiano’s demand for optimization: “For over 18 years, I have been looking for and finding ways to optimize work processes to make things easier for my employees. This creates a working environment where everyone can feel comfortable.”

As a fish worker who learned the trade from scratch, Cristiano could still fillet every single fish by hand today – if it weren’t for the responsibilities of a conscientious entrepreneur awaiting him.

Philosophy & Responsibility

We are aware that every day we deal with a valuable resource that is not only a staple food but also an important component of a functioning ecosystem.

Therefore, we always treat it with great respect and act with a high sense of responsibility, which we also expect from our partners. Our goal is to balance economic success and ecological responsibility.

Industry + Manufacturing

We achieve the highest demands for food safety and quality standards, as well as a production capacity of up to 60 tons per day, through the use of state-of-the-art specialized machinery.

However, manual work is still indispensable; our colleagues continue to fillet redfish by hand.

Sustainability / no waste

In times of overfishing, sustainability is indispensable. The sustainable management of fish stocks, the protection of our marine ecosystems, and responsible aquaculture are paramount. Therefore, we are regularly certified by the MSC Marine Stewardship Council (wild-caught fish from sustainable fisheries) and the ASC Aquaculture Stewardship Council (farmed fish from aquaculture).

By-products / Utilization

We utilize the entire fish. Parts such as bones, heads, offal, or fish skin are rich in nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, calcium, and vitamins. Therefore, we produce valuable by-products such as fish oil, fishmeal, or pet food from them.

Our Team

We are all a little bit Castro!

The people behind the Castro Seafood brand are what make it successful. Together, we strive anew every day to fulfill our customers’ wishes. Whether it’s purchasing, production, sales, logistics, or administration – every team member gives a little more than required. This is how we achieve 99 percent… we still need a little incentive.
